Legislation & compliance
Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
In England and Wales, the responsible person must assess fire risks and make appropriate arrangements for safe evacuation. Equipment selection should form part of the premises’ fire risk assessment and evacuation plan; buying a chair alone does not establish compliance.
Equality Act 2010
Organisations should consider their duties towards disabled people, including reasonable adjustments where required. Individual needs, transfer arrangements and safe evacuation should be assessed rather than assuming one product suits everyone.
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
Where applicable, work equipment must be suitable, maintained and used by people with appropriate information, instruction and training. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the organisation’s risk assessment.
Product-specific standards and medical device requirements
Only rely on standards or medical device status confirmed in the manufacturer’s documentation for this model. These requirements do not mandate the purchase of a particular evacuation chair.
